Thirty-four IB2 students, who take Physics, sciences or Visual Arts visited CERN in Geneva, the world’s largest center of particle physics.

The group visited one of the largest experiments at CERN, the CMS, as well as the multiple interactive installations of the Globe and Microcosm. Questions regarding current physics topics such as the dark matter and dark energy, were introduced by the tour guides and teachers alike.

The visit consolidated the participation of our IB Visual Art students in a research paper undertook by the University of Exeter, CERN, University of Birmingham and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. The paper explored how science can be approached through another discipline.

The trip included many excursions, most significantly to the Einstein Museum in Bern, the Giger Museum in Gruyere and the Musée d’animation in the picturesque Annecy in France.

Teachers accompanying the students: Dimitris Georgiakodis, Lefteris Volanis (Physics department), Eleni Nikolaki (Modern Greek department), Marina Kouroumali (Visual Arts department).
